Violence, delays plague Nigeria election

Home (CBC News) - Voters in Nigeria faced widespread delays and reports of violent clashes during Saturday's presidential election, in what is seen as a democratic test for the African country.

Tensions were high on the streets of Lagos following violence during last week's state elections, which was sparked after the opposition accused the government of widespread vote-rigging, the CBC's David McGuffin reported.

Reuters news agency reported three young opposition protesters were shot and killed by the military during a protest against alleged rigging in the northern town of Daura, according to hospital sources. Ten other people were reported wounded.
